Structures Applications Overview
IST products and systems are used in a diverse range of applications
from durability testing to character evaluation. This section provides a
brief overview of how IST's products are being deployed in mission critical tests.
Durability Testing
Response simulation methods can be used to duplicate the measured
service responses of the specimen on the MAST system without the
need for the complete vehicle. A test that formerly took months
to run on the proving ground can be carried out within days in the
test laboratory, early in the product development program when a
driveable vehicle may not even be available.
Noise Vibration and Harshness Testing
As the market demands vehicles that are best in class, the automotive
industry is focused on producing vehicles with increasing levels
of refinement. This requires comparative measurement of the interior
noise, vibration and harshness of new vehicles to be made. The IST
RoadLab is the perfect system to perform these measurements.
Squeak and Rattle Testing
In today's competitive market, the quality of a vehicle is often
measured by the number of “squeaks and rattles䜭 (S&R).
Identifying and resolving the squeaks and rattles can be carried out during
the development phase in the laboratory and also as a quality audit
process during manufacture in the assembly plant. The tire coupled
road simulator plays an important role in both locations.
Characteristic Evaluation
IST elastomeric test systems are available in different configurations
to suit your testing requirements. These systems are designed for
application testing of such things as visco elastic properties of
rubber-metal components and hydromounts such as axle mounts or motor
bearings.
Quality Control
In the assembly plant the squeak and rattle tire coupled simulator
is used as a quality audit tool to ensure that the squeaks and rattles
are not introduced into the final assembled vehicle as part of the
assemby process. After these problems have been resolved the tire
coupled road simulator is used as an audit tool to ensure performance
is maintained.
