Passive Safety Testing
IST has engineered a series of passive safety testing rigs to meet
different FMVSS and ECE regulations. All of the passive safety testing rigs are fully
integrated with IST's digital Labtronic™ controller and Windows®
software suite.

Occupant Impact Testing System
IST has engineered a versatile passive safety testing system which meets the requirements
for pendulum headform impact and torso-launch testing. Each configuration
can be supplied separately or in one multi-functional rig.
- Meets FMVSS 203 and ECE regulation 12.
- With addition of pendulum frame it also meets FMVSS 201 and
ECE regulation 14.
- Utilizes a catapult actuator for precise, repeatable control
of impact velocity.
- Digitally integrated with IST's Labtronic 8800 controller and
Windows software suite.
- Standard bodyforms and instrumented headforms.

Head Restraint Test Rig
- Precise, repeatable control of the hydraulic actuator via IST's
Labtronic controller and Windows software suite.
- Easily adjustable 'H' point.
- Precise control and acquisition of applied load from fatigue
rated IST load cell.
- Narrow rig design to allow two or more systems to act side by
side.
- System can be provided with a stand alone hydraulic power supply
or integrated into an existing ringmain.

Seat Belt Anchorage Testing
IST has designed a versatile new passive safety testing system which can be configured
from single axis - single seat anchorage test through to nine axes
- two seat, lap belt and shoulder belt test. The high rate option
allows the specified load to be reached in as little as 0.15 seconds
while the standard option will achieve load within 2 seconds.
- Vertical and horizontal adjustment ranges for cars, mpv's and
trucks.
- Up to nine, 1000 mm stroke actuators.
- Two loading rate options are available for FMVSS and ECE compliance.
- Digitally integrated with IST's Labtronic 8800 controller and
Windows software suite.
- Standard fixtures available for lap and torso belts.

Pedestrian Impact Test System
The IST pedestrian impact test system is designed to meet the EEVC Working
Group 10 Report recommendations for the evaluation of pedestrian
protection methods for passenger cars. The system allows tests to
be conducted on vehicle bumpers, hood (bonnet) and vehicle leading edge
by accelerating either a legform impactor, upper legform impactor
or headform impactor at speeds of up to 40km/h. The legform and
headform impactors are accelerated to the required velocity using
a hydraulic actuator operating under closed loop control. The impactor
is then released at the test velocity for 'free flight' impact on
the vehicle.
- The Hydropuls™ actuator is equipped with hydrostatic bearings
for the piston rod which makes it extremely insensitive to the
influence of side loads. Furthermore, with the hydrostatic bearing,
the piston rod is constantly sliding on an oil film, i.e. the
actuator works nearly without friction and without wear.
- The test rig is controlled by the Labtronic 8800. The control
of test sequences is done via PC.
- A simulation software enables the operator to generate a freely
definable velocity drive signal for the impactor.
- The position of the Hydropuls actuator (x,y,z and vertical angle
of impact) is adjusted electromechanically via a separate control
panel.
- The hydraulic energy, which is necessary for the tests, is provided
by two hydraulic accumulators which are mounted directly to the
actuator.
