X-Y Positioning Systems
X-Y positioning systems can be supplied for both four post test systems and full
vehicle simulators to enable the correct positioning of the system
for the size of vehicle under test. Four post rig positioning systems
are outlined below. Information on systems for full vehicle simulators
is available on request.

Four Post Rigs
Different types of X-Y positioning systems are available to enable
movement of the actuators/wheelpans to the required wheelbase and
wheeltrack dimensions for the vehicle under test.
Manual X-Y Positioning Adjustment System
Each actuator is mounted on top of two tee slotted baseplates at
90 degrees to each other. Movement in the X or Y direction is achieved
by unbolting the required tee bolts and moving the plate manually,
using a leadscrew and handwheel. Once moved to the required position,
the tee bolts are then re-torqued to the required level.
Automatic X-Y Positioning Adjustment System
Mechanically the system is similar to the above except the clamping
of the two baseplates is done by hydraulic cylinders and the movement
is driven by electric motors. The control of this system is via
+ and - pushbuttons for each actuator, or via a number of pre-programmed
push buttons. Once a preset button is pressed, the system moves to
a pre-programmed position which relates to a certain vehicle wheeltrack/
wheelbase dimensions. Displays are included to give a dimensional
readout of wheeltrack and wheelbase.
Computer X-Y Positioning Controlled Adjustment System
Mechanically the same as the automatic adjustment system, above,
but with PC control of the adjustment. This allows for a database
of cars' dimensions to be stored and selected when required and all
motions, dimensions, etc. are displayed on the computer screen.
Other variations are available dependant on the type of four post
system, such as:-
- Wheelbase adjustment only
- Rear axle adjustment only
- Systems that maintain the vehicle centerline in the same position,
i.e. for use inside environmental chambers.
