Working at Instron
I started working at Instron in 2017. It’s great working here because it is a big company with a lot of diversity. I am not limited to just learning about software. I have had loads of opportunities to learn about things like business strategy and how the machines actually work.
What does your role involve?
As a software engineer, my role involves developing software to go with our testing machines. I have to think creatively about how to solve problems. I work on creating new features as well as solving problems in existing software.
How did you become a Software Engineer?
After studying Aeronautical Engineering MEng at university, I went on to work as a design engineer for a year. But I found myself wanting to do something more high tech. At university I worked on a few different projects doing coding in C#. I feel really lucky to have the opportunity to develop those skills at Instron, even though I don’t have a background in computer science. It means I get to be around innovative engineering products, whilst developing my coding skills at the same time.
