Graduate Programme

Each year, we seek a number of graduates to join our Graduate Programme based at our European headquarters in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, UK.

As a Graduate Trainee you will follow a structured training and development programme for up to two years. You will have the opportunity to take ownership of projects, gain experience in a wide variety of disciplines and benefit from continual support, training and mentoring throughout the programme.

Our programme is designed for technical graduates who know they want to pursue a technical career but want the flexibility in a graduate training programme where they can try out several different technical roles. Our programme has three stages:


  1. 1. Core Induction (2 weeks) You will be introduced to your mentor, be trained in our products, learn about our business philosophies and spend some time on the science behind what we do.

  3. 2. Business Orientation (approx. 3 months) You will spend time in core parts of our business, meeting people and experiencing “a day in the life of…” or getting an overview of that part of our business. Together with some other planned learning experiences, this stage will help you to piece together how all the different parts of our business fit and work together.

  5. 3. Assignments (up to 18 months) You will have the opportunity to choose up to three assignments in different areas of our business. This gives you the opportunity to go back to a part of our business that really interested you in Stage 2 and spend more time there, trying out life in that part of our business.

You must have achieved (or be predicted to achieve) a 2:1 Bachelors degree in a suitable Engineering or technical subject.
 
This could be in a broad-based subject (e.g. Cybernetics or Mechatronics), in a specific traditional subject like Materials Science, Mechanical or Electronic Engineering or in a specific non-traditional subject like Automotive Design.
 
The key competence we are seeking is that you can hold technical conversations with technical people who could be colleagues, customers or vendors.
 
You must also have a permanent and unrestricted right to work in the UK.

You will also be assigned a mentor to support you throughout our graduate training programme. During your Core Induction, you will meet your mentor and, later, attend mentoring sessions together.

The first stage will be for you to complete a short questionnaire about yourself and your experiences to date.


The second stage will be short telephone interview which will look to cover your motivation for Instron as well as a few competency based questions.


The final stage will be series of face to face interviews at our site in High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire. This stage consists of:
- A number of one to one interviews which will focus on your CV and any work experience you have
- A tour of our European headquarters and manufacturing facility
- A presentation exercise

Does Instron reimburse travel expenses for attending interviews?
Yes, we will pay up to a certain amount towards your travel costs. Please bring receipts or a note of your mileage when you attend any interviews. We will arrange to reimburse you within a few days.
