Solder Bond Test

The purpose of this test was to determine a method for measuring the bond strength of solder ball contacts to IC packages. Tension tests were performed on two types of packages, one with 508 contacts and the other with 52 contacts.

Pushout Test with Linear Variable Differential Transformer (LVDT)

The purpose of this test was to accurately measure the force required to break a crimp joint between a 32 mm long metal pin and the surrounding metal body in compression.

Graphite Flexural Tests

The purpose of these tests was to measure the modulus of rupture (maximum stress) and the flexural modulus of two types of small graphite/epoxy specimens using a four-point flex fixture.

Cord Strapping Test

Tensile, buckle and recovery tests were run on Avistrap PW100 cord stapping. Two 1¼ inch wide samples were tested for tensile and buckle tensile properties. One sample was tested for recovery properties.

Compression Tests on Small Discs

The purpose of the test was to demonstrate the Instron 5542 for testing small disks in compression. Tests were run on wet and dry disks using both the crosshead and Linear Variable Differential Transducer (LVDT) for measuring displacement.
