ASTM F384 Dispositivos Ortopédicos Metálicos en Ángulo de Fijación de Fracturas
Los dispositivos ortopédicos de fijación o tornillos de compresión se usan para tratar fracturas en las áreas de metáfisis de los huesos largos. Al aplicar una carga de compresión se crea una flexión en la parte del ángulo que debe ser evaluada por los investigadores para determinar la resistencia y rigidez de los materiales y diseños y también es útil para el cirujano para predecir el rendimiento. También es necesario determinar la resistencia a la fatiga durante un tiempo específico o a una carga concreta. Por estas razones, la fijación debe simular las cargas de compresión sobre la parte angular de la placa debidas al peso corporal.
El ensayo se basa en la norma ASTM F384 (Especificaciones y métodos de prueba para dispositivos ortopédicos metálicos en ángulo para fijación de fracturas). Para el ensayo estático, se aplica un rampa de carga de compresión hasta que se produce una deformación plástica en el dispositivo de fijación. El objetivo es determinar la rigidez de la placa ante la flexión. Para evaluar de manera precisa el comportamiento del dispositivo será necesario utilizar un accesorio de flexión de 4 puntos y un equipo de ensayo de fatiga (Electropuls o 8870) La fijación está diseñada para trabajar con o sin baño salino y pude ser adaptada para trabajar con un gran número de muestras de diferentes formas y tamaños.
