Quick Tips for Testing: Clean Your Grips to Avoid Slips

In this video, we discuss the importance of regularly cleaning your grips to avoid specimen slippage and ensure accurate test results. Proper cleaning will ensure your grips are free of oil, residue, and debris and will increase frictional contact with your specimens.

Always remember to power down your equipment before cleaning it. Before applying a cleaner, spot-check it on each surface to ensure compatibility. Do not spray disinfectant or cleaning products directly onto the equipment, but instead use wet wipes or dampened cloths and wipe down any excess moisture after cleaning. Always use caution not to wet or dampen any electronic components.

Advanced Hydraulic Wedge Action Grips

Advanced Hydraulic Wedge Action Grips are versatile grips that can be used in both static and dynamic materials testing applications — up to 500 kN force capacity for dynamic tests, and up to 600 kN for static tests. Ideal for metals and composites testing, the interchangeable grip jaw faces accommodate both flat and round specimens, and the grip design maintains a constant gripping force on the test specimen, regardless of the applied test forces. The grips can easily be configured for compression testing with the use of piggyback load string adapters.

Instron® Hydraulic Dual Side Acting Grips

Instron hydraulic side-acting grips provide an innovative solution for high-capacity testing and deliver enhanced gripping performance, usability, and operator safety over traditional grip designs. These advanced grips maintain a constant clamping force on the specimen that acts perpendicular to the direction of testing and is independent of tensile loading.
