Instron® AVE 2 Non-Contacting Video Extensometer

The AVE 2 advanced video extensometer is one of the fastest, most accurate non-contacting strain measurement device commercially available. Utilizing patented measurement technology, this fully-integrated device easily adapts to the normal fluctuations of environmental conditions in your lab including thermal and lighting variations. The AVE 2 can be used on all types of materials ranging from low-strain metals and composites to high-elongation polymers and elastomers. In addition to ambient testing it can also be used with temperature chambers and fluid baths. This device is designed for static and cyclic fatigue testing and meets a broad range of standards, including ISO 527, ASTM D638, ISO 6892-1, ASTM E8, ASTM D412, ASTM D3039, and many others.

The AVE 2 can measure both axial and transverse strain. The standard unit is capable of measuring transverse strain at a single gauge width, or it can be equipped with the AverEdge32™ add-on feature to measure the r-value of sheet metal to meet the latest ISO 10113:202 standard.

The AVE 2 can also record images during your test to be used with Instron’s optional DIC Replay® software afterwards. DIC Replay is a 2D digital image correlation software that lets you quickly and easily create full-field strain maps of your specimens that are synchronized with the force and displacement data.
