ISO 306決定維卡軟化點溫度(VST)
此測試方法用來量測聚合物在高溫保持機械性質的能力,這樣子的測試逐漸顯得重要,因為在各種應用中塑膠持續取代許多傳統材料,測試本身藉由緩慢增加試樣的溫度並在一點施加負載來執行,一旦負載點穿透1 mm進入材料,測試即結束而溫度會記錄下來。
可惜測試並沒有提供讓使用者用於設計計算的結果,然而在品質控制或發展工具這非常有效──結果是熱塑性塑膠開始急速軟化的溫度量測。其中一個有用的測試觀點是既然試樣涵蓋最小的面積,這可以是任何大小或形狀,代表著測試根據此標準運行可以比其他標準還節省材料。
與ISO 306相似的為ASTM D1525、熱變形溫度(HDT)測試方法、ISO 75和ASTM D648。ASTM D1525與這些標準十分相似,但解釋為初期潛變。此外HDT測試操作上與「維卡」測試相似,但是使用不同的頭和試樣大小。
