Stress Relaxation
Relaxation, or stress relaxation, is a term used to describe the stress reduction of a material over time while it is held in tension. A material's relaxation is often measured during creep testing on a universal testing machine. When measuring relaxation, the motion of the crosshead is stopped, and the load cell continues to monitor forces to calculate the reduction in stress of the material. An alternate term is stress relaxation.
