ASTM C109 Compression Testing 2-Inch Concrete Cubes
ASTM C109 is used to determine the compressive strength of concrete by testing a 2 inch hydraulic cement mortar cube to failure. This standard also outlines the various equipment and procedures required to create, mold and prepare the specimens prior to testing. It is very important that the steps and verification are followed to ensure satisfactory test results. ASTM C109 is primarily used by departments of transportation, academic institutions, and manufacturers of consumer and industrial products.
Materials Testing System
Instron's 6800 Series floor model systems provide excellent capabilities for performing compression testing at the high accuracy specifications outlined in ASTM C109. These systems are engineered for versatile usage, making them ideal for labs that test other high strength materials to a variety of different standards.

Bluehill Universal for ASTM C109

Bluehill Universal software compliments ASTM C109 by enlarging the measurements screen in lieu of dials and by including choice inputs to distinguish soak times. Most importantly, because this standard has so many preparation and quality checks, Bluehill Universal's ability to provided prompted instruction to the operator encourages a seamless testing experience for both experienced and inexperienced users, as well as distinguishing samples from each other. Finally, since the specimens are molded by the operator, C109 requires that specimens' cross-sectional area not vary more than 1.5% of the nominal area. Instead of calculating this manually, Bluehill Universal can seamlessly input the cross sectional area and automatically determine if the specimen falls within this tolerance.
