CEAST Specimen Preparation

CEAST Specimen Preparation

Proper preparation of the specimen is a critical process for
accurate material characterization. An appropriate preparation
of the specimen, as well as an adequate notching procedure
affect the final test results, generating reliable outcomes in the
finish product performances. This is accomplished by several
specimen preparation techniques, making them particularly
suitable to select the most appropriate material and failure
results analysis. According to the requirements of the main
international standards, Instron® offers an extensive range of
notching, milling, and punching machines designed to prepare
specimens from thin to thick samples, as well as from soft to
hard and reinforced plastic materials.

2670 Series COD Gauges

2670 Series COD Gauges

Instron® Crack Opening Displacement transducers are designed
specifically to perform standard ASTM and ISO fracture mechanics
tests (both cyclic and static), covering all common specimen
geometries (CT, SEB, Centre Crack, Arc Shaped).
Each model offers class leading linearity, whilst being rugged
enough to withstand the high energy release common in many
of these applications and can be used at both elevated and sub
ambient temperatures.
These gauges comply with requirements laid down in ASTM E399-09.

GripHoist CP111030

GripHoist CP111030

Heavy grips and accessories can be awkward to install in
mechanical testing machines, and safety regulations limit the
amount that people can lift without risk of injury. For these
reasons it is typically necessary to use an external lifting
system – like a forklift or a crane – to lift and install grips or
accessories weighing much more than 15 kg (30 lbs). This is
typical for testing machines with capacities of 100 kN (22,000
lbf) and higher, thus requiring planning and working with
maintenance or facilities departments, all of which consumes
valuable testing time.
The Instron® GripHoist is designed to make the installation of
heavy grips possible without the use of external lifting systems.
It is intended for lifting accessories weighing up to 250 kg (500
lbs) into electromechanical or servohydraulic testing systems
that are fl oor mounted (not table mounted), and with capacities
of 100 kN (22,000 lbf) or more.
When used with Electromechanical testing systems, the moving
crosshead is used as the actual lifting mechanism, typically
with a fi xed length strap.
When used with servohydraulic testing systems, the upper
crosshead remains fi xed, and a “come-along” or other kind of
hoist is used to raise and lower the accessory.

CEAST HDT Vicat Series 3 and 6 Stations Testers

CEAST HDT Vicat Series 3 and 6 Stations Testers

The effect of temperature on the mechanical properties of plastic
materials has a fundamental role in the design of components,
especially in the selection of materials. Unlike metals and ceramics,
plastics are extremely sensitive to the slightest changes in temperature.
The selection of plastics for applications under different temperatures
is a complex task. The material must be able to support a stress under
operating conditions without losing its strength and without critical
distortion. The effect of temperature on geometrical stability and
mechanical properties in general can be studied following different
procedures and methods like at constant temperature or with a
temperature ramp.

Automated Tensile Testing System | Suture Materials

Automated Tensile Testing System | Suture Materials

The Instron® Testmaster Automation System, configured to perform unattended tensile testing of biomedical cord and yarn specimens, provides an ideal solution for high-volume tests of medical sutures. Designed to accommodate specimens of varying lengths and thicknesses, the system utilizes barcode labels to pass specimen information and testing specifications to the Testmaster2 Automation Control Software.
A typical automated test sequence includes the following steps: The robot retrieves a batch separator with a barcode label affixed from a rack, scans the barcode, and downloads the specimen and testing information to the Testmaster2 Automation Control Software. The separator is then discarded into a bin and a specimen is retrieved from the racks and placed into the tensile frame and tested. After the test, the specimen is removed via a specimen removal device at the back of the frame, which utilizes a low-noise, industrial vacuum to aid in full removal of the tested sutures from the grips area. The robot then inserts the next specimen to be tested.
