Residual Seal Force Testing with the AT2 Automated XY Stage
Glass vials must maintain a robust seal between the glass vial and the elastomeric closure to prevent product contamination and leakage. Residual seal force (RSF) testing is an evaluation of the quality of this seal. To perform this test, a compression load is applied around the edge of a vial until the lower lip of the aluminum cap breaks away and begins to move in a direction opposite to the loading. This type of testing at mid to higher volumes is an ideal candidate for automation – particularly a semi-automated solution such as the AT2 Automated XY Stage.
With a standard test setup an operator would always need to be at the machine. However, by using an Automated XY Stage, the operator can build a test sequence in the Bluehill method, load specimens into a tray mounted on the XY stage, start the test, and walk away to focus on other tasks.
