Instron offers a full spectrum of universal testing systems to meet the needs of metals manufacturers. The electromechanical 68TM-50 table top system is for testing up to 50 kN (~ 11,250 lbf), the electromechanical 5980 Series floor standing systems are for testing up to 600 kN (~135,000 lbf), and the hydraulic Industrial Series systems are for testing between 300 kN (~67,500 lbf) and 2,000 kN (~450,000 lbf). Each of these systems has matching accessories required to perform metal testing to ASTM and ISO standards including heating and cooling chambers, load cells for force/stress, extensometers for strain, and a wide range of tensile grips depending on your test specimen geometry.

STRAIN CONTROL
How to Improve Repeatability Between Testing Systems

 

In 2009, ISO 6892-1 replaced and combined both the previous ISO 6892 and the widely used EN10002-1:2001 standards. Most notably, it introduced testing rates based on strain rate (Method A). To better clarify these changes, the requirements of Method A were updated in ISO 6892-1:2016 which now includes two clearly defined approaches - Method A1 (closed-loop strain control) and Method A2 (constant crosshead separation rate). The benefits of strain control include more repeatable and comparable results from machine to machine, minimized time per test, simpler setup, and reduced operator training.
