Industrial Series High-Capacity Universal Testing Systems
600 kN to 2,000 kN Force Capacity
The Industrial Series is Instron's range of high-capacity static hydraulic testing systems, designed for tension, compression, and flexural testing of metals, concrete, composites, fasteners, rebar, and structural materials. Ranging from 600 kN (135,000 lbf) to 2,000 kN (450,000 lbf), these systems feature large diameter columns and rugged components engineered for superior frame stiffness, long-term durability, and consistent performance under demanding test conditions. Custom designs are available in higher capacities or specialized configurations such as compression-only frames.
Available Models
DX: 600 kN | HDX: 1000 kN
The DX and HDX models feature a proven two-space design that allows tension, compression, bend/flex, and shear testing without removing application-specific fixtures from the compression test space to perform tension tests — saving setup time and reducing the risk of fixture damage during changeovers.
KPX: 1500 kN & 2000 kN Capacities
The KPX models are designed for the highest-capacity tension, compression, bend/flex, and shear testing requirements. Featuring an ultra-large single test space and adjustable crosshead options, the KPX provides the working room needed for large specimens and heavy fixtures.
Advanced Technology in a Modern Design
- Open Front Hydraulic Grips The open-front hydraulic grip and crosshead design allows specimens to be loaded quickly and safely without jogging the actuator or adjustable crosshead. This reduces setup time and improves operator ergonomics in high-volume testing environments.
- Precision Load Cell Critical load data is measured directly from the center of the loading axis by a precision strain gauge load cell system. Load data is unaffected by actuator friction, allowing the hydraulic drive system to be fully sealed for reliable, long-term performance.
- Variable Pressure Pumping System The V-Series variable pressure pumping system supplies hydraulic pressure on demand — increasing output as testing load increases and returning to low idle pressure between tests. This reduces energy consumption, minimizes heat generation, and provides operating pressure for the hydraulic grips.
- 5900 Control Platform An integrated 5900 control platform delivers high-speed, closed-loop servo control and data acquisition on load, extension, and up to three optional input channels. Standard features include a single-range measuring system, Ethernet communications, and automatic calibration and recognition of transducers.
Bluehill® Universal Software
The Industrial Series is powered by Bluehill® Universal, Instron's latest materials testing software, built from the ground up for touch interaction. The Operator Dashboard features large touchpoints and easy-to-understand icons and workflows that simplify operator training and accelerate test setup — whether you are running standard tensile tests to ASTM E8 or complex multi-step compression sequences.
Pre-loaded test method templates for commonly used ASTM, ISO, and EN standards reduce setup time and help ensure compliance with the latest standard revisions. Instron Connect remote support is built directly into Bluehill Universal, enabling Instron Field Service Engineers to diagnose issues and provide technical assistance without requiring an on-site visit.
Ergonomic Handset
System controls are closer than ever before with an ergonomic handset mounted directly to the frame. The handset can be used in the docked position or removed and carried to the test area for hands-on control during specimen setup.
Customizable Soft Keys Two user-defined soft key buttons allow operators to initiate a variety of commands, configurable per test method for maximum flexibility.
Precise Positioning A fine position adjustment thumbwheel with tactile feedback enables precision crosshead positioning in 4 μm increments — essential for sensitive or high-value specimen setup.
Specimen Protect Specimen Protect automatically makes fine adjustments to the crosshead to prevent unwanted forces from being applied to the specimen during setup, protecting specimens from damage before the test begins.
Accessories
Industrial Series systems are compatible with a range of grips, fixtures, and instrumentation to support tensile, compression, bend/flex, and shear testing across a wide variety of materials and applications. Customized fixtures are also available for specialized testing requirements.
A Manufacturing Legacy Built on High-Capacity Expertise
The Industrial Series draws on more than a century of high-capacity testing expertise. Instron's global capabilities were built through the merging of recognized materials testing companies including Schenck, Wolpert/Amsler, Riehle, Baldwin, and SATEC™ — each with their own long histories of engineering precision testing equipment for the world's most demanding applications.
Today, the Industrial Series combines that heritage with modern load cell technology, advanced control electronics, comprehensive accessories, and Bluehill® Universal software to deliver a high-capacity testing platform trusted by manufacturers, research institutions, and testing laboratories worldwide.
