Case Study: ElectroPuls at G.RAU Inc.
For nearly 20 years, Instron has sought to continually improve its revolutionary range of ElectroPuls® all-electric dynamic and fatigue material testing systems. Central to the success of this mission is the development of high-value customer partnerships, which would not be possible without a collective dedication to customer service excellence.
[00:00:06] Speaker: The 20K is a game changer.
[00:00:12] Text: Alan R. Pelton, Founding Chief Technical Officer, G. Rau Inc.
[00:00:13] Speaker: So when we first saw it, we said, oh my goodness gracious, this is what we want.
[00:00:21] Speaker: I've done a lot of medical device testing with every company out there, and the only one that I could reliably say that I trust the results implicitly was Instron. And so there was no question from day one that we were gonna be an Instron lab.
[00:00:42] Speaker: Success for G.RAU Inc. is finding innovative solutions to be able to help patients.
[00:00:12] Text: Sean Pelton, Chief Operating Officer, G. Rau Inc.
[00:00:50] Speaker: The vast majority of our business is focused on the medical device industry. We've really found our niche working specifically with Nitinol, but we're constantly expanding into other materials and also other industries as well.
[00:01:08] Speaker: So the technical challenge that we have, we have a lot of E3000's with multiple stations that are really, really good, best in class for cardiovascular testing.
[00:01:12] Speaker: We also wanted to expand into orthopedics.
[00:01:16] Speaker: So as we were growing our needs, we started talking more with Instron and they were willing to throw in a bunch of their engineers into helping design the next iterations of their systems.
[00:01:26] Speaker: I helped G.RAU configure the ElectroPuls E20K.
[00:00:12] Text: Terrance Grady, Dynamic Systems Sales & Applications Engineer, Instron
[00:01:29] Speaker: Often times when it comes to a knee joint or a spinal fixture or some sort of orthopedic, 10 kilonewtons just doesn't always check the box.
[00:01:36] Speaker: So having 20 kilonewtons of capability and being able to run cyclically to simulate, you know, a spinal fixture or some sort of orthopedic joint is paramount.
[00:01:46] Speaker: Being able to have higher capacity testing and more functionality with torsion and being able to run tests in saline solution environments and air, it means growth for us.
[00:02:04] Speaker: The E20K is the perfect machine.
[00:02:06] Speaker: Spectacular. I mean, it's in a perfect position in the lab. It's the perfect piece of equipment to be right at the forefront of their lab space and I think it speaks to where G.RAU has been, but also where they're going.
[00:02:18] Speaker: You know, our emphasis needs to be what's gonna be best for the customer
[00:02:21] Speaker: What does the next five years look like for the company?
[00:02:24] Speaker: Making sure that the products that we produce and manufacture are in line with what their long-term goals are as well.
[00:02:33] Speaker: I know that if I go to them with a question, a problem or a potential solution, they're gonna listen. They listen every time.
[00:02:44] Speaker: I have a handful of people in Instron on my speed dial on my phone ready to go whenever I need to, and I know whenever I call them, they're
gonna answer the phone.
[00:02:52] Speaker: We feel like being able to have this kind of partnership with Instron, it increases our value. So when companies see us, they know that we're backed by Instron as well, and that they can rely on our results and that we are doing the right things.
[00:03:06] Speaker: And the billions and billions of cycles that have now had FDA approval tells me again that we've made the right decision.
[00:03:15] Speaker: It really comes down to the people. If you trust the people and they're the ones that are designing and building the equipment, then you trust the equipment and it goes full circle.
[00:03:25] Speaker: That's the kind of trust that is the kind of, if you will, partnership that we've had with Instron all of these years.
