Split insert tensile grips are designed for safe, high-volume production testing of threaded-end, shoulder-end, or button-end machined specimens. Engineered with an operator focus, the split insert style tensile grips are easy to install, offer quick change inserts for standard specimen sizes, and promote efficient static testing of a wide range of metals and alloys. A preferred solution for the testing of high-strength, high-toughness materials that may damage or cause excessive wear to traditional grip arrangements. These grips are designed to comply with ASTM E8, ASTM A370, or ASTM A48, and other international standards, and can be made to custom specifications. A wide range of possible button-end, shank hole, and chamfer / radius dimension options ensures compatibility with a large variety of specimen sizes.

Self-Aligning Tension Grips

The self-aligning tension grips are designed to perform static tensile tests on threaded-end test specimens to various international standards, including ASTM E8, ASTM A370, and ASTM A48. The grips are designed with a double alignment arrangement at each end, which forms a universal joint of movement. This ensures the specimens are loaded in uniaxial tension, and do not require any adjustment during use. A full range of interchangeable grip heads are available for use with specimens of different cross-sectional areas. A safety guard is provided for the shoulder specimen grips to prevent specimens being ejected from the grips where stored energy is released on specimen breakage.

Threaded-End Specimen Holders

The threaded-end specimen holders are designed to perform static tensile tests on threaded-end specimens to various standards, including ASTM E8 and ASTM A370. The specimen holder has threads on each end: one end threads into an adaptor (purchased separately) connecting it to the frame, and the other end having threads to hold the specimen. With a properly aligned crosshead, the threaded-end specimen holders ensure the specimens are loaded in uniaxial tension. Each set contains 2 threaded-end specimen holders. Capacity 267 kN. Debris shields, also known as protective shields, provide a protective barrier between the test space and the operator. These may be necessary for materials that exhibit violent failures under test, such as composites, rebar, and cables.

Debris Shield with Sliding Door for Table Models

Depending on user-preference and footprint limitations, a sliding debris shield is available for table model universal testing systems. The sheet metal and polycarbonate shield encase the front of the test machine, separating the user from debris and moving parts while also giving excellent visibility. To access the test space, the sliding door is opened to the left and specimens and grips can be loaded through the 845mm tall and 440mm wide port. The debris shield can be equipped with an optional magnetic interlock which prevents tests from being started with the door open and can be configured to prevent all crosshead motion when the door is open.

Component Test Plate

The Component Test Plate is a drilled and tapped metal plate that can be mounted directly to the base of single and dual column test frames. The entire surface is covered in an array of M6 threaded holes that can be used for a variety of purposes, including mounting components or end products to the plate for tensile, compression, bend, peel, or puncture testing. The plate also allows you to mount grips off-center and makes it easier adapt custom-made grips and fixtures to your test system.

Principle of Operation

Components or end products can be mounted directly to the component test plate with compatible M6 hardware or machinist vices. The location of the specimen on the plate should be selected such that the area of interest, where the load application occurs, is completely centered. If the load application is off-center it could potentially damage the load cell.

The component test plate is also compatible with Instron standard base adapters (type O and D) which can be mounted to the plate using any of the M6 threaded holes – allowing you to place a grip off-center or adapt a custom-made grip or fixture to the test frame.

No, each team Bluehill Central file system is independent. When logging into Bluehill Universal or Bluehill Central, a user will only see the files associated with their team. If two or more teams require the same methods, one team is recommended. If multiple teams are required to support different file modification approval workflows, a file can be shared between teams by downloading from one and uploading in the other. File revision history is maintained during the download and upload operations.

Can users save files to a local or networked location on the Windows file system (non-database location)?

Sample, PDF report, method, and report template files can be saved to local or network drives if the file type is configured without signature requirements. If signatures are required, it must be stored to the Bluehill Central database to secure the file and control its approval workflows. Note: Saving a file to Bluehill Central allows access to prior revisions of the file, which is not possible when saved on a local or network drive from the Windows file system.

Can test methods and report templates be modified in Bluehill Central?

Can sample files be opened in Bluehill Central?

What is TrendTracker used for?

TrendTracker allows Instron users to view results from multiple samples, which cannot be done in Bluehill Universal. For instance, a test lab runs 10 specimens per batch (we call this a sample). In Bluehill Universal, users cannot compare that data with a batch that was run yesterday, last week, or last year to understand if there are outliers and to identify trends in material production. TrendTracker would be opened in Bluehill Central to view results over time in a table or in a chart. Data can be searched with customizable queries to filter the results as necessary.

Can I export historical sample data into TrendTracker?

What database do TrendTracker results get stored in? The same or separate database from the audit trail?

Do results automatically get sent to TrendTracker from the Instron system?

Can you export raw data to TrendTracker?

What users can export results to TrendTracker?

Yes, each team can be configured with their own signature settings to support different workflows. It is common for labs with Bluehill Central and Traceability to have a development team without method change approval and production team with 2 or 3 signatures to required to begin testing with a method. Note: regardless of signature settings, all changes are tracked in the audit trail and contained in the file itself.

If I have local Traceability on an Instron system, can I export its audit trail into Bluehill Central?

If my method files have revision history already, what happens when I save or upload them into Bluehill Central?

Which database installation type is best for my lab?

How many Bluehill Central viewers do I need?

A viewer license is required for each computer that intends to install a Bluehill Central viewer for TrendTracker analysis, change approvals, audit trail viewing, user management, or any other functions in Bluehill Central. One viewer is included with your Bluehill Central license. Additional viewers are available depending on your needs. Note: if your IT intends to virtualize a viewer for access by multiple employees, the unlimited viewer option must be purchased.

Do I need the Bluehill Central viewer installed at each test system?

No, a Bluehill Central viewer is not required at each test system. Most labs choose to install viewers on employees’ computers for remote access, but some install viewers at each test system or on a shared, centralized computer in the lab. Note: Bluehill Universal itself connects to the Central database, giving users access to the test methods and samples stored on the database they need for testing or to open existing sample files.

Bluehill Central uses a client/server architecture to manage the flow of data. Clients include Bluehill Universal installed at each Instron system and Bluehill Central viewers installed on any computer where a user would like to access Instron files, perform reviews, view the audit trail, or modify any settings being managed by Bluehill Central. A server application manages all the transactions between the clients and the SQL database as data flows to and from the database as users work with Bluehill Universal and Bluehill Central’s viewer.

Are there backup options?

Yes, there is a manual backup operation to create a “.bak” file of the database, including all files stored in Lab Management, the audit trail, and all team/user settings. Automated backup operations can be configured in SQL Server. Note: if using the TrendTracker option, its data is stored in one or more independent SQL databases. There is currently no backup option in Bluehill for TrendTracker, meaning backups would be managed in SQL Server. Note: Test data and results are always retained in the Instron sample file regardless of their results being exported to TrendTracker’s database.

Damper test systems are ideally meant to test the shock absorbers of a two/four wheeler including those used on the railways as well.
